Comments At the end of my first date with Sara, she moved in with me. You might think the date was extraordinary. We’d gone to a Hollywood hamburger stand and gabbed about bands and writers for four hours. Until that night, we’d only spoken on the phone a few times. By the time the ice in my soda had melted, I’d fallen in love.

It’s about damned time, you might say. A new study has found that people suffering a major depressive episode who report they have become grouchy, hostile, grumpy, argumentative, foul-tempered or angry will likely have a “more complex, chronic and severe form” of major depressive disorder than those who do not acknowledge irritable feelings and behavior.
We’re not talking about a small minority of the depressed either: Compared with the merely sad, guilt-ridden and lethargic, the irritable depressed had more severe depressive symptoms. They stayed depressed for longer. They relapsed more readily. And they were more likely to experience other psychiatric conditions as well, including anxiety and substance abuse disorders, impulse-control problems and antisocial behavior, the study showed.
Indeed, the researchers suggested, such depression may spring from different biological origins than depression in which manifestations of anger or irritability are absent. That is also suggested by the study’s finding that subjects expressing irritability were more likely than those who did not to have a family history of bipolar disorder. Researchers interviewed subjects about their symptoms twice a year for the first five years and at least once a year thereafter for an average of more than 16 years.
The study’s authors did not count those who said they experienced “occasional snappiness” among the depressed and irritable.

December 29th, Leave a comment Go to comments One of the classic behaviors of a person suffering from Borderline Personality Disorder is the vilification campaign. The target is the person against whom the perpetrator Borderline conducts the vilification. As with so many things involving Borderlines and their typical inability to understand or respect boundaries, there really are no limits. They will use basically any means available to them to cause damage to their target, including denigration, endless disparaging remarks, fabrication, false accusations, and even teaching others including their children!
This choice of words emphasizes that the campaign employs lies, exaggerations, fictions, partial truths, and other reality distortion techiques. As it is unusual for a Borderline engaging in a vilification campaign to not use distortions, we shall refer to these as distortion campaigns just as the authors of Stop Walking on Eggshells have done.

Has she self-disclosed bi-polar or are you speculating? I’ve never dated a BP1 but have dated a couple BP2’s and, medicated, I’d be stretching to complain about any significant problems. BP2’s swing much more gradually and over weeks to months, not minutes to days like a BP1. How does it go for you? Would I marry a diagnosed and confirmed person with bi-polar? Nah, did the mental illness thing as a caregiver so, lovely as they might be, I’d pass.
If they otherwise were interesting socially no problem socializing but I’d head for the exit if they went sideways and not look back, no different from a woman cutting me off if not liking my behaviors. There’s always going to be some guy who thinks his book of tricks is superior so, if the lady is otherwise attractive, she’ll never lack for male interest. I ask because of the sleeping during the day thing. I noted with mental illness when caregiving, as well as interactions with alcoholics, that sometimes they reverse days and nights if not otherwise required to function during the day.
